Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Summary
Pain expereince in patients with multiple sclerosis is very known phenomenon. However, no studies have been performed so far that examined possible alterations in pain experience when patients with multiple sclerosis become progressively cognitively impaired. Consequently, in cognitively impaired patients, we wish to examine the relationship between pain, mood, other comorbidities, cognition, and motor activity.
Doel van het onderzoek
The following hypotheses will be examined:
a. patients with multiple sclerosis who become cognitively impaired may experience an increase in pain experience (due to white matter lesions)
b. hyperesthesia is known to be predictive of central neuropathic pain. But could also hypesthesia be a predictor of central neuropathic pain
c. patients with multiple sclerosis suffer from comorbidities. It is hypothesized that particularly the affective aspects of pain show a relationship with comorbidities
d. It is hypothesized that there is a close relationship between a decline in motor activity, pain, and cognitive functioning in patients with multiple sclerosis
e. It is hypothesized that there is a close relationship between pain, motor activity and sleep in patients with multiple sclerosis
Onderzoeksopzet
There was only one moment of measurement (it is an observational study).
